My favorite Faux Space Family begins its trek across wherever. Let's talk about:

- 33
- Water
- Bastille Day

Jacob never recapped this season, so there's a dearth of pith and wisdom out there and I feel like we can fix that. (Plus, "dearth of pith"? That was fun to say.)

The look on her face is this perfect mix of tears of joy, a smile and exhaustion.

*nods* I'm finding season 1 to be chock full of all those little moments that don't necessarily inform the story a great deal more, but say some lovely little thing about the character(s), whether the character(istic)(s) is/are actually lovely or not. That scene was all the more important because it was a definite ray of hope.

One thing I thought of when I watched this after having watched everything else: that... I don't know what to call it... the body language of squee wherein Laura bends at the knees and sometimes the waist, with the result that she somehow looks even happier/more excited than before--do you know, Tom (or anyone else) if that's something Mary McDonnell's using just for Laura, or if, as with the putting on of Jed Bartlet's jacket, that's something she's just brought to the character? I wouldn't have thought about her doing it in '33' if I hadn't seen her do it* more in later episodes.

*AD subtext unintentional, at least before I reread it.

Hmm ... I don't think it's exactly like MS not being to put on a jacket any other way, Elorie.

I saw Mary McD on the "Today" show once. (Spring of '07, I think.) Mary McD is, or at least that day she was, a lot more effervescent than Laura Roslin allows herself to be. Of course, consider the job descriptions: Leader of what's left of the human race; actor playing that role on a TV show. ;-)

I think the squee body language there is Mary McD making an actor's choice to say this is what Laura would do in a moment of great joy, would allow herself this bit of exuberant expression.

My lack of recent TWW viewing is showing there, Tom. I got to that point and blanked on everything but MS and the jacket, and even that one took me a minute. I almost said like BW and backpacks.

Um, yes, the former would lead to a certain non-effervescent quality, I'd think. Yet that makes it quite charming when there is some genuine happiness.

would allow herself this bit of exuberant expression.

'Bit' may be the critical part of that. I'm thinking about later demonstrations of the squee body language, but as much joy as there may be in each one, it's still contained. I suppose that's why they're so noticeable, to me, besides the fact that I've been known to do the same thing--the level of happiness implied and--well, lovely, I forgot where I was going. I suppose what I was trying to say is that there are times when the impression of happiness is, somehow, much greater than expected, or what she expresses with her face. One of the reasons I enjoy watching her on BSG, I suspect. So at least I know what a nuke made out of excitement looks like. ;-)
